The 42nd World Chess Olympiad will be held from 1 till 14 September in Baku. More than 180 teams will take part in the open section, and more than 140 teams will fight for the medals in the women's section.

The favourites of the open tournament are the national teams of Russia, USA, China, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, France and Poland. In the women's section the highest average rating have the teams of China, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, India, USA and Hungary.  

Both tournaments will be played according to the Swiss system with 11 rounds.  The winners are determined by the number of match points they have scored. There are 4 main and 1 reserve participants in each team.

Playing days: 2-6, 8-13 September. Free day: 7 September.

The games will start at 15:00 local time. The last round will begin at 11:00.
